1. Filtering the search result
From the search page, you can filter results based on: Popularity, Vol. of Sales, Seller’s Reputation, Newest Product, and Price.
2. Information on the item page
Once you have clicked on the item’s listing, you may choose an option (颜色分类 colour, design, size, if any). Then, you can also tell the amount of stock (库存) the seller has left. Sometimes, depending on the option you choose, the price changes. So if you see a range of price - click on your desired option to reflect the right price.
3. Seller Feedback & Rating
With so many sellers, and all selling the same items - how do you judge which seller should you buy from? Taobao has a feedback/rating system that ranges from red hearts to golden crowns. This depicts how many successful sales the seller has made so far. Rule of thumb: Look for sellers with at least 500 transactions and above 99% Feedback.
On the side bar, you can click on the rating where you can see how a detailed breakdown of the Seller’s transactions. You will be taken to a page with a table that looks like this: Red Flower = Positive Feedback // Yellow Flower = Neutral // Black Flower = Negative Feedback
4. Authenticity & Quality
Besides the obvious rule of avoiding ‘too-good-to-be-true’ pricing, you mayavoid buying bad, fake or low-quality stuff on Taobao by looking out for actual photos (实拍). Although you may want to go for the products that have the most professional-looking photos, keep in mind that these were probably just downloaded from other website. Better Sellers will take close-ups on the actual product to show the details.
